There is a broad range of investments available including but not restricted to real estate, limited liability companies, promissory notes and closely held stock. The advantage of a self directed account is the diversity it can provide as well as independence and control over your retirement funds. This type of account can be complicated and requires experience and expertise in assisting you to be in compliance with regulations.
